Just outside the hamlet of Speziale, a place which has been named the “most delicious crossroad of Italy”, lies Masseria Marvicino in an ideal position between the sea and land of Puglia. Once a working farm, this holiday home is located in the Plains of Olives (declared a UNESCO world heritage site), a stone’s throw from the picturesque Valle D’Itria and the Adriatic coast, which showcases some lovely sandy beaches. The area is also ideal for cycling as it offers cycle paths though the olive groves starting just a few metres from the house. The hamlet of Speziale, with two excellent restaurants and a wonderful cheese dairy come grocery store, can be reached on foot.
The Masseria is absolutely private and serene, with gorgeous views onto the olive groves and the Selva di Fasano (the verdant slope of the Murge) as a soothing backdrop. From the roof top that climbs above the olive trees you can rejoice at the view of the blue Adriatic see.
The owner has restored the Masseria with her expertise as an Interior Designer and deliberately preserved the simplicity of the old farm house. Not surprisingly it has been featured in the press, magazines and books on interiors.
Original elements were preserved whenever possible, including the nails in the ceiling that were previously used to hang up the tomatoes grown in the Masseria’s garden. The furniture was sourced locally and much of it is the work of skilled local artisans: almost everything is made in Puglia! The 4 bedrooms and bathrooms, as well as the living area and kitchen, spreading over a total of 250 square metres, have a very elegant flair. The colour palette is soft and soothing: greys, whites and sandy tones dominate the picture.
Outside the pool is sheltered by an impressive Indian fig on one side and the centuries old olive grove on the other. The vivid colours of the plants’ green, the pool’s deep blue and the red of the clay-rich Apulian soil come together effortlessly. Just at the other end of the pool is the covered veranda with the dining table and outside lounge with sofas. A beautiful spot any time of day!
To add to the list of unforgettable experiences is showering outside with a view onto the giant witnesses of history, the beautiful olive trees.
Masseria Marvicino touches all senses and allows for a true Apulian experience in comfort and style!
