Hidden behind century old walls lies this oasis of peace and ancient flavours in the middle of Salento. Outside these walls olive groves dominate the scenery, broken off here and there by picturesque towns and bordered by two seas- the Adriatic and the Ionian, both at an equal distance.
Stepping inside through heavy wooden gates feels like entering a secret world where Indian Figs grow abundantly, fresh fruits can be picked straight from the trees and a beautiful Murgese horse grazes peacefully in the meadow. The Masseria is built around a splendid courtyard which turns into an open air living room with comfortable seating arrangements during the warmer months of the year. Otherwise there is also the dining area with an enormous dining table and a little lounge with sofas and a fireplace. Rooms are located within the L-shaped structure surrounding the courtyard and all have direct access to the outside. The simply furnished rooms feel cozy and yet refreshing.
Beautiful wall colours are mixed with antique furniture and, due to the family history, pieces of art from both Turkey and the Salentine peninsula.
Benedetta and Mario are lovely hosts and are keen to share their wisdom on the area. Bicycles are available and a little ride through the olive groves, or into nearby Scorrano, is a great pastime. Scorrano is a quaint little town where time seems to have stood still for the past 30 odd years.
Back at the Masseria a pool is found in a secluded part of the garden and is great for cooling off after a day of excursions in the area or simply lazing around all day.
Mario and Benedetta offer their rooms on a B&B basis, including homemade jams, baked goods and fresh milk products. However, Le Pezzate can also be rented as a self-catering property for up to 14 guests- ideal for larger families or groups of friends.
Masseria Le Pezzate is pure Salento magic!
