Just a stone’s throw from the beautiful seaside town of Otranto, Masseria Montelauro appears like a beacon of light from the surrounding olive groves. This former monastery has been converted into a stylish and sophisticated retreat while managing to maintain a very welcoming and laid-back atmosphere.
The contemporary whites of the interiors keep the focus on the stunning building structure: thick stone walls and impressive vaulted ceilings which have been restored with uttermost care. The Apulian rustic charm is matched with Moroccan elements, which creates an intriguing yet unobtrusive mix.
The 29 rooms and suites continue in the same theme of cool and chic, and feature intricate wrought iron beds, delicate lace-edged linen, wooden furniture and Northern African décor. All rooms lead directly into the delightful gardens with various types of fruit trees, olive trees, flowering bushes and other local and exotic plants. This garden of Eden is completed with a swimming pool and snug places to relax in, both during the day and in the evenings when everything is romantically lit up.
Whether it is breakfast, lunch or dinner, the food at the Masseria is always fresh, local and delicious. Breakfast is served as a buffet while dinner consists of a set menu. Both are served either outside on the terrace or under vaulted ceilings inside. Lunch is also available upon request and often served as a buffet next to the pool. The small bar is attached to a lovely sitting room with a fireplace and comfortable sofas- the perfect spot for some more relaxation and reading one of the international newspapers on offer. In the early evening the bar serves snacks and drinks, and also during the day the ever-so-friendly staff will be happy to look after you.
Taking a break from the soothing atmosphere of the Masseria, the massages in the small Spa and the lounging around the pool and gardens will not be an easy task. However, heading to picturesque Otranto with its port, the castle, the cathedral, little alleys with small shops, restaurants and bars will definitely be something you will not regret. Last but not least, some of the best beaches of the Adriatic are also close by.
Arriving at Masseria Montelauro is like entering into another world- a world without stress, where body and mind come to a rest and are re-tuned to the rhythm of nature.
“You are the best. The Masseria was amazing.
We will definitely contact you again when we visit Italy again.
Many thanks for everything!”
(S. Braunschweig, Switzerland, July 2023)“We really enjoyed our stay. The Masseria was beautiful.
The location, close to Otranto, was great. The 2 rooms we had were more like out little private house, excellent.
The girls at the reception were very helpful and helped us make reservations etc. for the beach and restaurants. The other personal was also very friendly, even though they did not speak English very well, but that was not a problem at all.
We would definitely recommend this property to others and may also go back there ourselves.”

(Fam. Wullschleger, Switzerland, September 2018)“We had the most amazing time at Masseria Montelauro. Fell in love with the place and definitely plan on returning again.
Thank you so much for all you help and in creating a perfect vacation for us.”
(A. Lang, USA, July 2016)“I had a wonderful time in Apulia! “Masseria Montelauro” exceeded all expectations: beautifully appointed and decorated; delicious food and wine; staff that were friendly, charming and went out of their way to help.
I was particularly delighted by the gluten-free cakes and pasta that were cooked for me and Enzo’s (head waiter) caffe con latte di soia at breakfast was the best I’ve ever tasted!
Once again, many thanks for your recommendations. The coast road from Otranto to Santa Maria di Leuca was every bit as spectacular as you said.
I wish I could have spent longer in Apulia and my departure from Brindisi was a terrible wrench!”
