Trullo Ruffo

A symphony of 8 cones, of all sort of sizes, appear almost out of nowhere, down a small countryside lane. This part of the Valle d’Itria is distinguished by small woodlands of oak and Mediterranean cypress trees, empty fields, sloping green hills and is dotted with charming trulli, countryside homes and Masserie.
The property consists in a Trullo house and a newly built Lamia.
The trullo is a splendid example of restoration, which offers comfortable and modern living within ancient walls. The structure is particularly beautiful with its stonework, contrasting lime painted walls and arches. The owners managed to create a chic and very cosy atmosphere, combining crystal chandeliers, unique pieces of delicate local ceramics with some shabby chic antiques and linen materials. The kitchen is modern and extremely well equipped. Any hobby-chef will be delighted to prepare a meal here with the local produce and now and again take a break to look outside the big kitchen window and enjoy the scenery.
The trulli offer one double bedroom, two bathrooms with shower (one also with hydromassage), a generous living space and a dining area for 8. If needed, one of the sofas can become a comfortable double bed for additional guests.
Right in front of the trulli a built-in sofa area under a roof becomes a great spot to spend the summer evenings chatting away. It is very sheltered between high stone walls and surrounded by garden plants.
For the morning coffee the spot under the giant oak tree is a favourite, while for bigger meals there is also a table under the gazebo right outside the kitchen, which overlooks the saltwater pool.
The Lamia is only a dozen meters away from the Trullo and is split into two mini-apartments, each with a double bedroom, bathroom with shower and kitchenette. One of the two apartments is a bit more spacious than the other and offers the possibility to prepare an additional single bed.
Each apartment has its own private veranda with views onto the surrounding countryside and a woodland right behind the property. Both apartments are very charming and have their individual highlights.
Depending on guests needs and requirements, at certain times of year it is possible to rent only part of the property.
The location is ideal to visit the famous trulli-village of Alberobello but also other beautiful places such as the Baroque town of Martina Franca or the small hilltop jewel of Locorotondo.
Despite being well in the heart of the valley of the trulli, the Itria Valley, the seaside and its charming beaches can be reached without much of an effort.
Temperatures up here are never as hot as in the lower lying areas. There is always a pleasant breeze, even in the height of summer and eventually there is the pool should you need to cool off.
In any case, the property is also well-equipped with air-conditioning in the newly built parts, which do not have the thick stone walls and high ceilings of the trulli to keep the interiors naturally cool.
The owners were especially keen on making their property as environmentally friendly and energy efficient as possible. The property is equipped with solar panels and an air-to-water pump, for instance.
The local farms in this area often have their own little farm shops where you can buy fresh cheese, all sorts of other milk products and local produce. A small grocery shop is also in walking distance.
Last but not least, a very professional and kind team looks after the property and its guests.
Trullo Ruffo is a wonderful place for a memorable stay and is also very welcoming and cosy during the cooler months of the year.

Everything was wonderful thank you, we loved the Trullo, the area and all of your recommendations were incredibly useful, thank you so much for them.
The only thing we could think of would be to advise people that the water is not drinkable in advance. Other than that we could not think of anything that would have improved our stay! Thanks so much and we will certainly be in touch when we return to Puglia! “

“We had the most wonderful time at the Trullo Ruffo.
We absolutely loved our stay. The house is authentic, tastefully renovated and very well equipped as we were able to cook big breakfasts and meals for our group of five. We even had a nice cosy dinner inside when it was a bit rainy the last day.
Vita and her daughter were great hosts. They were very responsive, waited for us for check in and found us a place to have dinner even though we arrived pretty late. The pool guy was very nice as well, he came every morning to pick up the robot and always brought fresh fruit from his garden so we are actually very happy we chose this option.
The only very minor downside to me was the fact that the automatic lights in the garden stay on all night and we had to sleep with windows open in the trullo for fresh air as there’s no AC. So we had a bit of noise and lights frrm outside late at night, but as I said it was a very minor inconvenience.
The trullo is also really well located and we had time to visit different cities in the region (Lecce, Alberobello, Monopoli, Polignano, Cisternino and Martina Franca). We left with the feeling that we still have a lot to see though and would all come back to explore the region more!
We will highly recommend this place and hope to be in touch with you again to organize our next holiday in Puglia.”
